Los Angeles-based photographer Soo Kim has been awarded the 2013 John Gutmann Photography Fellowship by the San Francisco Foundation. The annual award, which comes with $7,500 to support her photography, recognizes emerging photographers who have demonstrated artistic commitment and professional accomplishment. The jurors this year were Richard Misrach, Sandra Phillips, and Leland Rice.
Kim, who has an MFA from the California Institute of the Arts, has had solo exhibitions at Angles Gallery in LA and Julie Saul in New York, among other places, and her work has been in group exhibitions at such venues as Julie Saul, the Getty Center, Wallspace, and Vassar College. She teaches at the Otis College of Art and Design in LA.
The jurors also selected David Bush, from Germantown, New York, for a $2,500 Honorable Mention. Bush has been photographing for 20 years and teaches at Bard College.
