Online Event: FORECAST Artist Talk with Nykelle DeVivo

Artist Talk

February 15

Please join us on Tuesday, February 15th from 6:00 – 7:00 PM PST for an artist talk with FORECAST 2021 Juror’s Choice Award Winner Nykelle DeVivo. DeVivo describes their practice as a “personal meditation on the space between our world and that of spirit.” Their ethereal images and self portraits are filled with light and reflection that are both sensual and meditative. FORECAST Juror Marcel Pardo Ariza said of DeVivo’s exhibition entries, “This work makes me think of shaping a new future while exploring the possibilities of becoming. Nykelle DeVivo’s work has a lot of energy and textural depth, I hope they use this momentum to keep developing a very strong practice.”

We welcome you to learn more about Nykelle DeVivo’s photographic practice as they share work and answer questions from the audience.

Exhibition submission for Head On Photo Festival 2022

December 17, 2021 - February 20, 2022

Sydney, New South Wales, Australia

Head On Photo Festival is a leading international photography festival. Our reputation is based on our belief that every photo artist deserves a fair chance to show their work. This philosophy has allowed us to be the first to show quality work that breaks the mould and exhibit all genres of photography by artists at all career stages.

The 2022 Festival will take place in Sydney during November and we are now seeking exhibition submissions.

We are looking for diverse, engaging, quality work in all genres across still photography, multi-media and video art.  Head On Photo Festival welcomes applications from individual artists, curators, groups and exhibition spaces/galleries, Australian and international. Work can be recent or not – are you sitting on a treasure trove of past images?

We believe all photo-artists need a fair chance to show their work; proposals submitted through our submission process is judged without the artists’ names or pedigrees, so they stand on their merit alone.

After the selection panel reviews the submissions, we will invite successful applicants to exhibit during Head On Photo Festival 2022.

BRINK: Virtual conversation and book signing with photographer and author David Butow

Artist Talk

January 20

Monroe Gallery of Photography is pleased to announce an exclusive event with David Butow, photographer and author of the new book “BRINK”.

On January 20, 2022, the one year anniversary of President Biden’s inauguration, at 5 pm MST (4 pm PST, 6 pm CDT, 7 pm EST) David Butow will be in conversation with Steve Appleford, a contributing writer and video producer with the Los Angeles Times, Rolling Stone, and other publications. BRINK chronicles the dynamics that unfolded during the 2016 presidential election and led, finally, to the insurrection at the U.S. Capitol in January 2021.

From a dingy motel room in the swing state of Michigan, to the Oval Office, BRINK chronicles dynamics that unfolded during the 2016 presidential election and led, finally, to the insurrection at the U.S. Capitol in January 2021. Photographer David Butow moved from the San Francisco Bay Area to Washington, D.C. in 2017 to document what he knew would be a chaotic time in U.S. politics. “While I expected the incompetence, I underestimated the treachery,” he says in the book’s Endnotes.

Fine art prints and signed copies of BRINK will be available.

Drop in to learn about some of the museum’s best works that are normally behind closed doors and meet fellow photography enthusiasts. These in-person sessions are free and open to all.

By drawing on techniques of photojournalism, forensic photography, and documentary landscape, the artists presented in this session actively engage with myth and reality as they question the roles of memory, the media, and evidence in photography. Artists featured include Richard Barnes, Carlos Javier Ortiz, Christian Patterson, Taryn Simon, and Angela Strassheim.

For in-person events, masks as well as proof of vaccination or proof of a negative Covid test within the last 72 hours are required for entry.
