Hiroshi Sugimoto and architect Lord Norman Foster are the winners of the inaugural Isamu Noguchi Award, presented to “like-minded spirits who share Noguchi’s commitment innovation, global consciousness, and Japanese/American exchange.” The awards will be presented at the Isamu Noguchi Museum’s spring benefit on May 13.

“Sugimoto’s multifaceted career reflects the true mission of the award,” according to the museum’s press release. “As seen in the subject matter of his photographs, Sugimoto represents globalism, a concern that speaks directly to Noguchi’s own commitment to Japanese/American exchange.” The show Sugimoto: Acts of God is on view at the Fraenkel Gallery May 1 – July 3; Hiroshi Sugimoto: Still Lifes is at Pace Gallery in New York May 9 – June 28; and Hiroshi Sugimoto: Past Tense is at the Getty Museum through June 8.
