A landscape photographer who has long focused on the natural world, Sally Gall has turned her attention, in her latest series, to the domestic front, though the billowing skirt in the image on our cover, Red Poppy, 2015, could easily be a flower. In Sally Gall: Aerial, on view at the Julie Saul Gallery from September 8 to October 22, sheets, skirts, blankets, and blouses become buoyant abstractions, bursts of color against a cornflower-blue sky, or flowers floating on the wind. Photographed from below as they dance with the breeze, the clothes become semaphores: Gall leaves it to us to break the code.
