American photojournalist Tony Vaccaro is best known for his photographs of Europe after World War II, including our cover image, The Violinist, 1947, a Fellini-like shot of a solitary musician in Venice. Vaccaro’s photographs are on view at Santa Fe’s Monroe Gallery of Photography and in a pop-up exhibition in New York, curated by Peter Frank, called Tony Vaccaro: War, Peace, Beauty, from November 11 to 21 at 508 West 26th Street, 5G, with an opening reception November 11, 6-8 pm. The documentary Under Fire: The Untold Story of Private First Class Tony Vaccaro also premiered this fall and will air on HBO.
