The Maine Photo Project, a collaboration between a number of statewide institutions, debuts January 19, with the exhibition UMA Faces: 50 Years / 50 Portraits, at the Danforth Gallery of the University of Maine, Augusta. At the University of New England Art Gallery, A Gateless Garden: With Quotes by Maine Women Writers opens January 20. And on January 22, Diary of a River: Solargraphs of the Kennebec River opens at the Maine Museum of Photographic Arts.  Rounding out the lineup, Colby College continues its series on emerging artists with currents7: Elizabeth Atterbury, opening January 27. A number of programs and lectures will be taking place throughout the state in the month of January to coincide with these exhibitions, which are the beginning of a yearlong celebration of photography in Maine involving more than 30 museums, galleries, and cultural organizations.
