The Library of Congress has compiled a greatest-hits compendium from its huge collection of photographs into a new e-book, Great Photographs from the Library of Congress. Civil War photography by Mathew Brady, portraits of Native Americans by Edward Curtis, and color imagery by Carol Highsmith are just some of the images included in the book.
The e-book, which will be available for the iPad on November 11 through ArtePublishing, was edited by Aimee Hess of the Library’s Publishing Office. It contains more than 700 photographs, ranging from Dorothea Lange’s Migrant Mother to an image of the Wright Brothers’ first successful airplane flight. The photographs are arranged in eight chapters: The World and Its Cultures; American Indians; African Americans; Images of America; Accidents and Disasters; Architecture, Design, and Engineering; War; and Famous People.
The e-book is interactive, with links to the Library of Congress website, where readers can access catalog information for the images and download high-resolution copies of the photographs.
