Thirty photographs from the collection of Robert E. Meyerhoff and Rheda Becker have been promised to the National Gallery of Art in Washington, D.C. The museum’s collection is strongest in 19th and early 20th-century material, and the gift is comprised of contemporary work, expanding the collection in an important direction. Work by Andreas Gursky, Thomas Demand, Candida Höfer, and Thomas Ruff and Thomas Struth, of the Dusseldorf School, is part of the gift, as well as images by Jeff Wall, Cindy Sherman, and Hiroshi Sugimoto.

The photographs will go on view in the fall of 2016, when the East Building opens after a renovation.
