Photographer David Armstrong died October 26, from complications related to liver cancer.
Along with Nan Goldin, Mark Morrisroe, Jack Pierson, and Philip-Lorca diCorcia, Armstrong was a key member of the influential Boston School of photographers who first garnered critical attention the 1980s. His portraits of friends and lovers were included in a number of exhibitions, among them the 1995 Whitney Biennial. He helped curate Goldin’s landmark Whitney show, I’ll Be Your Mirror in 1996, and he published four monographs of his own work. He also photographed for a number of fashion magazines, including French Vogue and GQ.
