Lyle Rexer spoke with Penelope Umbrico about her appropriation projects and the importance of screens in her work. “I  wanted to speak to the physicality of the screen,” she says, “and also our passivity in relation to it.” Umbrico’s work is on view at the New York Public Library, in Anna Atkins: Refracted, through January 6; her installation Monumentopens at the BRIC Media House in Brooklyn November 29.
